Challenge is 10% complete… run #7,8,9 & 10

10% Complete #7,8,9 and 10

Sunday 24th January: 1:40′.17″

Half #7 done, my second fastest time this year so far, was very warm and tough going even on an easy course, not surprised, I’ve ran 33 miles in four days including a sub20′ parkrun !

The good news is that I’m having three days rest, plenty of stretching and one strength training session.

Planned to run two 10.5k  laps, but first lap was too short so I had to add extras on second one, in Castlefields and in town centre.

Before my run I spotted Scott running and Jo in Greenfields and during warm up Narin, Silvia on Km 1, then Jordan gave me a toot along Smithfield Rd on Km 7.

On km 9 I ran for a couple of hundred meters with a regular parkrunner, but can’t think of his name and saw him again later along the river!

Rick was having a relaxing stroll with his family in the Quarry and cheered me on, that was on km 15, he deserves the rest after amazing PB at parkrun yesterday 🙂

Another number added on my wall planner, just 1218 miles to go 🙂

Planning to run next one on Thursday.

Friday 29th of January: 1:40’49”

Finally done #8, one day late because of work, so I had 4 days recovery but this means one less rest day till next one!

Tough one, was very windy and had to change route with 4 miles to go because river was high and path flooded!

Only one toot to mention, Ellesmere Rd on km 2 was John in his Bt van.

My iPod stopped working after 8k so it was a lonely tough run without music, but happy with 1:40′ 😃 Already ran 105 miles, 1205 left!

Lots of stretching needed, and have to wear some silly long socks as well to speed up recovery!

Will run my 97th parkrun tomorrow and HM #9 Sunday or Monday, will decide tomorrow night 😃

Thank you for all the donations, £253 so far and there’s a little mention of my challenge in tonight’s Shropshire Star on page 18 😃

Sun 31st of January: 1:37′.52″

Ran #9 without warning, even I didn’t know I was going to 😃

Ran a slow parkrun yesterday, was trying to practice a 22′ pacing and was too fast, but after cheating a little and slowing down to almost walking pace with 500m to go I managed to finish just 15″ too fast 😄

I planned to run #9 on Monday so I could have an extra day recovery, but in my head I desperately wanted to squeeze another one in before January ended.

Had a couple of hours to spare, felt ok so off I went, unplanned, unplugged! I improvised route, went whichever way I fancied and matched my fastest time, not bad after just one day recovery since last one!

A few toots to mention: Ian on km2 , Mickey on km9 , then Shaun was walking on Telford Way and high fived me on km 11 and Connor a few minutes later on Km 12

I feel good considering I’ve ran 250km in January, proper strength training and lots of stretching helps 😃

1192 miles to go! Next one is probably wednesday or thursday and will be #10, a landmark one

Strange thing is that I felt better after just one day recovery than when I had four days!! Very interesting 🤔

Wednesday 3rd February: 1:39′.52″

#10 done and that’s 10% of my challenge completed 😃

Only 1179 miles to go ( sounds better than 1900km !!) Picked a tough route today, was undulating , don’t really know why I don’t pick easy ones, silly me 😁 maybe later on in the year, maybe I never will !!

Legs were still stiff from yesterday’s strength training session, I should have a recovery day after those, but because of work I have to try and fit in my runs when I can, so not always possible to follow rules.

Got s toot on mile 1, I think it was Ian, and on km 9, Janet and Fred.

Went past the Red Barn on km 11, thank you Teresa and family for donation, and past that speed camera ( I’m sure it flashed as I ran past it 😜)

A couple of days rest to come, lots of stretching , will practice again 22′ pacing at parkrun on Saturday and then #11 on Sunday.

Thank you for encouragement, support and donations.

Nearly £300 raised so far 😃 , to sponsor me please visit www.justgiving.com/Rik-RoadRunner and please leave your name so I can thank you personally.
